Imagine thou art not, enjoy!

It was in the late 60’s and early 70’s in Europe and North America that young protestors filled the whole city walls with their protest paintings (graffiti) using sprays and stencils, to the extent that traffic signs were also not an exception to this rule. This incident spread to the point that many laws were created to deal with these street artists. The government was also trying to erase these paintings off the city day and night, but it didn’t take long before the works of graffiti artists, which were considered ugly before, took on the face of art and were no longer ugly in the eyes of the public. People and some art collectors also collected these works from the street and after a while the prestigious museums also thought about it. Nowadays, however the works of these artists, the best of which can be called Keith Haring Banksy, are sold at high prices. Even though the art of graffiti and urban art is new in Iran, it has been grown rapidly.

It was in the late 90’s that works like this were seen little by little in the corners of the cities in Iran. The works that were raw at first and sometimes similar to Western works at best, but soon found their way and presented their own unique form.

In Iran specially the city of Tehran, one of the areas that faced a huge flood of these works from the very beginning was Ekbatan town. A town that, according to its conditions, housed more young people interested in this field than any other area in Tehran.

Omid Turkman grew up among the same youth and in the same area. His mentality was full of symbols of the city and the colors that were used in graffiti in those days. This brought innovation to his art. The innovation after 11 years has become a fashion trend among the youth, a cover culture that was derived from urban art and graffiti. At first, he designed and implemented a very limited number of T-shirts for his personal use, which was welcomed by his friends and young people around him, and it wasn’t long before he thought of producing these works and presented his first official collection in the same year. currently, he presents more than a few hundred designs in different collections for each season, which have been welcomed by the new generation in Iran.

Omid Turkman, graduated master’s degree in painting, creates his works inspiring the same symbols and culture of Iranian people in his paintings. Works in large dimensions that boldly and recklessly destroy the border between posters, graffiti and paintings and shout their own voice.
